The Bucks and DII have strong links going back to the early 1990s. Current DII Sales VP Richard Bottomley locked the scrum for the Bucks in the mid-1990s and again from 2003-2007. VP Asia-Pacific Mark Harris has played continuously for the Bucks since his arrival in Singapore with IEDS in 1996, leading the backline from the outside half position.

The region established itself as an important future global LNG supplier during 2009, especially to the increasing energy demand of the growing economies in the Asia-Pacific region, led by China and India. Australia, Papua New Guinea and Timor Leste have ongoing LNG projects or projects waiting to be sanctioned in the next two to three years.
Australia’s objective to establish itself as a leading global LNG player had attracted many E&P companies, especially Asian companies, to explore for hydrocarbons or to secure further LNG supply for their country. During 2009, huge gas discoveries continued to make the headlines. Exploration activities in Australia are expected to increase in the next two to three years as companies continue to explore for gas in order to secure reserves for planned LNG projects. The biggest milestone during 2009 was the approval of the Final Investment Decision for the AU$ 43 billion Gorgon LNG Project led by Chevron.
Papua New Guinea finally established an LNG project in 2009, when the ExxonMobil-led Papua LNG Project received its Final Investment Decision in December. The establishment of this project is expected to stimulate more exploration activities in the next few years, especially for gas.
Timor Leste and the JPDA area will see increased activities in the next two years a result of active government promotions to the international oil and gas community.

World Exploration Bulletin (WEB+) provides current, planned and historical activity information at the click of a mouse delivered directly to your computer in a variety of easily integrated formats. Header data from wells, contracts, pipelines and infrastructure, cultural and geographic data are all available as GIS files. The service is also now enhanced with DII Scout, a weekly bulletin of key activity and updates delivered directly to your mailbox in a format easily readable on Blackberries, iPhones and other hand-held devices.

Delivered direct to your mailbox in a format easily readable on Blackberries, iPhones and other hand-held devices, dii Scout gives you only the key information that you need in a precise, straight to the point, design. This allows the user to skip directly to his or her area of interest, avoiding wasted time sorting through superfluous information.

A link to Country section of Web+ is also provided, should the user require the deeper background information behind the headlines.

All existing DII customers will receive this enhancement at no extra charge, providing additional value to our already competitively priced product suite.

In addition to the speed improvements we are making changes to Web+ to make the service more even more user friendly, with additional delivery options. We are also enhancing our web server capabilities to increase the range of products that can deliver.

During the first part of the year we are pleased to announce that we will be launching the following regions, Australasia, Eastern Europe and North Africa. Please contact us if you would like to trial or purchase any of these regions.

It’s been a busy year at dii as we expanded our service offering and our already experienced team:-

• The Latin America South service, written by Michael Dyer, is now up and running from Houston.

Francisco Bello – Director Latin America

Francisco Bello joins DI International as Director for Latin America. Bello began his career in 1981 as a project geologist with Lagoven in Maracaibo, Venezuela and worked his way up through the ranks to Exploration Manager for the company’s Western Exploration Unit. When Lagoven was merged with PDVSA Bello was promoted to PDVSA Re-Exploration Team Leader and later held the positions of Exploration Intelligence Manager as well as Unitization Manager for the state oil entity. He relocated to Houston in 2003 and joined IHS Energy, utilizing his extensive knowledge of Latin American exploration and production as Director of Regional Teams, Americas, leading a staff of editors, analysts and researchers to produce in-depth reports on activities throughout the region.
Bello will produce DI International’s Northern Latin America reports covering the countries of Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela. Richard Bottomley – Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing

With 17 years experience in the exploration and production industry, Richard Bottomley joins DI International as Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing. He most recently worked for Schlumberger / WesternGeco in Mexico as Regional Sales Manager, after postings in both Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Prior to Schlumberger, Bottomley was Director - Far East for IHS Energy based in Singapore, having begun his career with IEDS in the UK. During his tenure with IEDS and IHS, Bottomley successfully managed scouting teams covering the North East Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and South East Asia. He holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Applied Geology from Plymouth Polytechnic, an M.Sc. in Palynology from the University of Sheffield, and recently completed a Pg. Cert. in Oil and Gas Contract Law from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.

Martine Davis – European Sales Manager

With a strong sales and marketing background and more than 15 years experience, Martine Davis joins DII’s UK office as the company’s European Sales Manager. Ms. Davis most recently worked for SKF (UK) Limited as Business Development Manager and was responsible growing the company’s sales revenues by nearly £2 million in just over a year’s time.

The Bucharest team has access to new data sources throughout Eastern and Central Europe which should be of great interest to any-one working the region.

Like the other six DII offices, the Bucharest team obtains and quality-checks well status and location data, licensing rounds, contract changes, and other relevant information and posts it in near-real time to the DII subscriber website. DII clients can then immediately download the data in a variety of easily manageable formats, including GIS location coordinates, which is of considerable value to companies that need to maintain an edge over their competition.

DI INTERNATIONAL - ROMANIAN STAFF

Dr. Serban Veliciu is a geological engineer with a PhD in Geophysics from the University of Bucharest and over 40 years’ experience in oil and gas exploration. Formerly Director General of the Geological Survey of Romania, Dr. Veliciu has carried out various exploration and development projects with Petrom SA, AMOCO, Enterprise Oil, and Romgaz SA. He is an associate professor at the University of Bucharest, Department of Geology and Geophysics, co-author of five books, and author or co-author of 28 articles published in the major international geological and geophysical journals.
 
Mrs. Ioana Nicolae is a data analyst with 30 years’ experience in oil and gas geophysical exploration. She graduated from the Technical School of Geology in Bucharest and has spent her professional career with the Geological Institute of Romania (Geological Survey of Romania) working for scientific research teams in Geophysics.
 
Mrs. Florentina Tudorache graduated from the Technical School of Geology in Bucharest and has spent the last 25 years as a cartographer with the Geological Institute of Romania (Geological Survey of Romania), with responsibility for national geological maps compilation.
 
Mr. Petru Stratulat is a former party chief for geological exploration with Prospectiuni SA. He joined the foreign trade state company GEOMIN, successively filling the roles of chief of GEOMIN Missions in the Middle East (Yemen), as well as in Africa (Zambia). For the last ten years, Mr. Stratulat has acted as an advisor in directing efforts concerning the contracts and bid rounds for the Romanian National Agency for Mineral Resources.

Dr. Nick Robinson - CEO, UK

The region witnessed an increase in licensing activity during 2009 – Afghanistan, India and Pakistan all introducing new or revised petroleum policies and offering exploration acreage under favourable fiscal and contractual regimes.

India continues to be an emerging market with large unexplored acreage and offers huge opportunities across the value chain. The country witnessed two significant milestones during 2009 – Reliance Industries Ltd bringing its Dhirubhai 1 & 3 deep water gas discoveries in the Krishna-Godavari Basin onstream, which will effectively double the country’s total gas production, and Cairn India Ltd commencing oil production from its Mangala Field in Rajasthan. Deep water exploration remains vital in the country’s efforts to achieve energy security and India is expected to witness the drilling of 200 deep water wells over the next 3-5 years.

Bangladesh expects a formal conclusion to its Offshore Bidding Round 2008 in the near future, following which the unexplored deep waters of the Bengal Fan will be investigated – interest in the country’s offshore stimulated not only by the success of E&P companies along the East Coast of India, but also by recent discoveries offshore Myanmar.

Pakistan is also making significant headway in its exploration efforts in the Indus Delta – the second largest submarine fan system in the world.
