The Northern Latin America region is one of the most interesting and important areas in the world from an energy perspective. Western hemisphere OPEC members Ecuador and Venezuela hold the largest hydrocarbon reserves in the world, including the massive Orinoco belt heavy crude. Colombia is the top destination for international energy investors in Latin America. With a highly evolving and dynamic upstream sector, Colombia is close to doubling its oil production since 2007 and is on the way to becoming a major regional and world power in the sector. Trinidad is also an important strategic regional gas producer and exporter. The exciting new emerging offshore play based on the recent Zaedyus discovery is having an important impact on the no-longer forgotten countries of Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. The combination of these different countries and trends make the Northern Latin America region increasingly critical for exploration and production companies both for the present and looking ahead to the future.
